19:59:15 From Ronda Stewart : Mr. Gunn has been great in posting emails everyday. Haven’t heard from some teachers. 19:59:31 From KELLY : new superintendent: Dr. Francisco Duran 20:00:56 From Monica Bonzano : how about excel classroom check ins? 20:03:37 From Anika Kwinana : It would be great to have mandatory check-ins. Excel is a great idea, using Microsoft teams of something? 20:04:30 From Laurie M : I agree about the check ins - especially if they are academically related. 20:07:26 From Lilli Tnaib : could 6th and 7th graders keep their iPads over the summer for extra activities and engagement? 20:11:42 From Anika Kwinana : Just a note that the National Children's Chorus holds weekly zooms. Everyone stays on mute so they are singing alone. But it's going really well. They also have private lessons. If at least something like Mr. Jonas' Flex EXCEL could be done like that or they could upload videos. Anything that gives them some accountability would be amazing. 20:13:05 From Kendra : some of my child’s teachers are providing extensions for the gifted students 20:13:43 From Alexis Joyce : Maybe there are parents who are willing able to assist musical instruction via zoom? There are private lessons taking place virtually. There are also some apps available that some kids can use easily to put together ensemble videos. 20:14:48 From Adrienne Honigstock : if you have Ms. Webber’s office hours, please let me know. thanks! 20:15:53 From Laurie M : We have asked for extensions and have received that from some teachers, but not most teachers. 20:16:37 From Alexis Joyce : If the meeting is being recorded, the comments will be saved. 20:17:02 From Anika Kwinana : ms teams can work though 20:17:35 From Stacey Finkel : This is being recorded 20:17:45 From Stacey Finkel : And we will post to PTA website 20:18:46 From Lilli Tnaib : Can there be any summer enrichment, like math assignments and reading/book reports? I’m worried about the summer gap combined with this situation. 20:19:28 From Stacey Finkel : Office hours: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t5dKUxN2cPjKpBjcG1kxbsDNTfexxGLp/preview 20:19:45 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : kentechhelp@apsva.us 20:20:46 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : If you are experiencing technical difficulties with your school-issued IPAD, please contact the school using the address listed above for help. 20:22:33 From Johnathan Ramey : Ms. Tnaib, I teach health education. Please let me know if your student would like enrichment activities during the summer and I’m happy to provide you options. 20:22:44 From Jamie Pilot : will it really be necessary to repeat a class? 20:22:47 From Tammy Bewitz : I know there’s a lot going on currently, but is admin able to look or gather info about best practices happening now among Kenmore teachers and share it? Also, as we move forward it seems highly likely that online teaching and learning will be a part of our fall…is there something the PTA can do to support some sort of staff development/sharing of best practices? 20:24:45 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : Ms. Pilot - no it will not be necessary to repeat a class such as French. This was an example provided by a parent. 20:24:52 From Sejal’s iPhone : What about Steam? is there a way kids can pick up materials at different times to work on a project? 20:25:46 From Anika Kwinana : Parent Pro Tip: we have our kiddos plan out their work for the week and daily. They have to tell us what they will be working on for that day starting at 10 a.m. and then they start their day. They have to show us in Canvas what is do, completed, etc. That has helped us to learn canvas ourselves and to encourage independence and follow through for the kids. 20:29:43 From Tammy Bewitz : I’m worried with APS budget cuts that there won’t be enough available to address this. I think we probably even have many parents or contacts in our community who could be a resource for our staff when it comes to utilizing tech to it’s fullest. 20:31:19 From Anika Kwinana : I agree. Thinking back to the elementary teacher helper. . .but virtually. There are likely many of us that use tech with our work and could hep support teachers. 20:36:40 From KELLY : Kaitlin, what is the cut off date to make a schedule change if needed once school starts 20:36:59 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : Typically within the first two weeks of school 20:37:41 From KELLY : yes 20:38:49 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : Amazing, thank you KMS community 20:40:14 From KELLY : nope, thank you all 20:45:37 From Jessica.West : Thank you all - take care 20:46:46 From crissy hall : Thank you Stacey, Mr McBride, Ms Bresnahan and everyone for your time and all of the information you shared tonight! 20:46:49 From Kendra : i believe Arlington Rec cancelled all summer programs 20:47:07 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : Yes, I think you are right Kendra 20:47:23 From KELLY : summer camps have not been cancelled yet, only the classes. there was an email today 20:47:23 From Anika Kwinana : They haven't cancelled camps yet just the programs... 20:47:58 From Kendra : what are programs v camps 20:47:59 From Lilli Tnaib : Thank you, this has been very informative! 20:48:36 From Anika Kwinana : like special activities and summer classes which tend to be once a week one hour over several weeks 20:49:00 From Kendra : thanks anika 20:49:02 From Anika Kwinana : the camps are like junior jam and other camps that tend to be full days everyday throughout the summer 20:49:07 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : Proposal from Dept of Teaching and Learning: June 12 - Final Day of Instruction 20:49:16 From Alexis Joyce : programs like classes and the summer basketball have been canceled. Day camps might still go forward. I think they want to wait as long as possible since many parents use the camps for childcare. 20:49:19 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : June 17 - Virtual Middle School Promotions 20:49:47 From Kaitlin Bresnahan : *These dates still need to be approved by the School Board 20:49:51 From Ronda Stewart : what about honor roll certificates for 3rd qtr? 20:51:14 From Tammy Bewitz : Thanks!! 20:51:20 From Ronda Stewart : Thank you
