Mission Statement:

Arlington Public Schools provides students with sequential instruction in all aspects of music education: singing, playing, moving, reading, listening analyzing, creating, and performing. A variety of ensembles are available to meet the needs and interests of students at all levels of schooling.  The curriculum gives students the opportunities to understand music styles from many historical periods and from a variety of cultures. Classroom teachers and music teachers trained in the integration model integrate music into the instruction of academic subjects. Arlington Public School strives to educate all students to the highest level of musical skin and knowledge commensurate with their talents and abilities.

Philosophy:

Goals:

The goals of the band program are:

1. To develop an appreciation for all music
2. To work cooperatively with other students in a group situation, while also contributing as an individual.
3. To respect the different levels of ability present in a group situation
4. To develop a discipline, which will enable students to respond to the directions given to them by the director?
5. To demonstrate and responsible behavior adhering to a schedule.
6. To be responsible to the proper care of instruments and music.
7. To educate students based on the Music Content Standards that set benchmarks for knowledge in the performing arts.
8. To provide students with experiences that will make it possible for them to have a lifelong appreciation of music and music performance.
